Finding Peace in Any Circumstance
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me do: and the God of peace shall be with you.” ~ Philippians 4:8-9
A verse that has been a great help in our house lately is Philippians 4:8. We have it wrote on our bathroom mirror. It’s a reminder to only think on these things that are true instead of believing something that we don’t know to be factual in any given circumstance. It’s helped us to stay focused on what’s true and positive.
In coming across this verse one day in my studies, I continued to read on to verse 9. “Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me do: and the God of peace shall be with you.” I noticed a lot of instructions in these two verses.
First, in verse 8, Paul tells us how to renew our minds by thinking on things that are just, pure, lovely, and things that are of good report. Then in verse 9, he tells us how to have peace by continuing to do what we have learned, received, heard, and seen in his writings and his life.
I love that God didn’t leave us to stumble around in this life alone without help from His Spirit and gave us specific instructions on how to live wholly before Him.
So when your mind is churning with things that are really out of your control or the situations in your life seem impossible, remember these two verses and keep doing what you’ve learned, received, heard, and seen through God’s Word. I promise it will get you through every time!
