Finding Strength to Press On
Last Sunday morning, I woke up feeling defeated, discouraged, and worn out. The past few months have been an emotional roller coaster. I didn’t think I had the strength to get ready for the upcoming church service, nor did I have the desire to do so.
I started to get ready even though my heart wasn’t in it. In doing so, I decided to listen to a sermon from Pastor Jim Cymbala entitled Pressing On. This seemed to energize me. Before I knew it, I was ready for church with time to spare!
The service was going as intended as a young woman got up to sing a song before our pastor would preach. As she began to sing in a-cappella, I could feel hot tears rolling down my face. That’s when God squeezed my heart so tight that the cries that came from it were cries of thanksgiving and praise. Through this one song, He reminded me that He was still in control of my circumstances. There’s never been a time that God has not been faithful to me, and I realized that wouldn’t change now. It was one of the sweetest personal times with the Lord and one I won’t ever forget. God strengthened my faith that morning and gave me exactly what I needed to continue to press on.
During times of discouragement, we need to continue to be in His Word, continue to pray, and even fellowship with other Christians. Even though we think we have no strength left to do so. That’s when God will come through for us every time.
If you’re going through hard times, please don’t give up. Press into God and let Him be your source of strength. God will be faithful to you as He has been to me. So press on my friend!
