Record Your Journey
Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord. Psalm 102:18 (ESV)
I remember when a friend pointed this verse out to me. It was a time that I had gotten slack in keeping up with my journaling habits. I had thought that maybe keeping a journal wasn’t all that important. I was so wrong, and I’ll explain why later in this post.
During my devotional time that morning, I read this:
“We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.” Psalm 78:4 (KJV)
“The next generation is struggling and looking for guidance. What better way to introduce them to the Lord than to share your miraculous encounters with the Lord? Over time these harrowing rescues may fade in our memory, so write them down with your full emotions. Later we can uncover them to retell the stories. Not only is this an act of worship, but it is also a personal reviving of your spiritual walk. Plus, there’s the bonus of igniting a desire for the Lord in someone you can influence. Have you shared lately the mighty wonders the Lord has done in your life?”
So I encourage you to pick up a spiral notebook or whatever suits you the best and record your journey with God through journaling.
When I felt God calling me to write this blog for months, the thought of “what you know” kept waking me up at night. God seems to do this to me when He really wants to get my attention. Of course in my mind I was afraid. I was scared that it meant something terrible. Could it be that I would have to rely on what I knew God to be to get through a tough situation? But later, God confirmed to me through numerous people that I needed to write on what I know about Him. So that led me on a search back through my journals. See just another reason you should keep a journal. You never know when God is going to use those journals to speak truth into your life again.
Through those journals I will be able to recall and write about the times in my life where God showed up and showed out! Had I continued to think that my journaling wasn’t necessary, I wouldn’t be able to recall all the times that God has moved in my life to write this blog.
I love God’s timing, don’t you? He placed a friend at the right time in my life to be able to speak truth when I needed it. I hope that over time that’s what this blog will do for you as well. I hope that it will be a friend that will speak truth into your life when you need it most.
